The ravaging pandemic has forced the OtterTune team to stay away from each other for the last year. The last time we were together was in May 2021 to celebrate the announcement of our brand new database optimization SaaS.
But as you know, otters are a tight-knit bunch. That means we must get together to bond and plan our next steps. So last month in May 2022, we got our team together in New Orleans, LA (NOLA) for our company off-site to have fun and plan for the future upheaval of database administration burdens.
Each morning, we met to clarify OtterTune’s vision, plan the future of our product, and brainstorm new marketing ideas. Each team member also did a five-minute presentation on a topic of personal passion, including London city tours, Trader Joe’s frozen foods, video games, pizza, and sourdough recipes.
Some of us found ourselves at Willie Mae’s Scotch House and the outdoor music patio eating too many beignets. (We’re still swimming them off). We paid tribute to some of our favorite music legends at Musical Legend Park. And we made ourselves at home on the water with a New Orleans swamp tour hosted by Airboat Adventures, where we ran into a wild albino alligator and kept our distance.
Bourbon Street was a bit tamer than we had anticipated. It was mostly full of older people wearing Crocs and carrying plastic drinks.
From our perspective, the trip was a success: nobody lost their luggage, nobody got arrested, and we all made it home safe. Putting our heads together and just being a crazy group of otters made us even more excited about the future! So stay tuned.
